Ensuring fair conditions of service for teachers in Powys

During October, Dilwyn Roberts-Young, the field officer for south west and mid Wales has attended meetings in County Hall, Llandrindod Wells, Powys to consult on the county's policies relating to teachers' conditions of service.

The meeting has seen constructive discussion with human resources officers, councillors and legal advisers from the Authority on various policies including:
leave of absence, discipline, whistle blowing, use of e-technology, grievances, flexible working, substance misuse, and supporting working parents.

It is crucial that we as unions attend these meetings in order that we can ensure fair play to our members and to ensure that the employer considers the impact of the policies they have authored. The discussions have led to changes which will protect our members and ensure that everyone is treated equally and with respect.

The next meeting will be on the last day of the month with the intention of reaching an agreement on the content of the policies and establishing a pattern of regular meetings with the human resources department to discuss matters relating to employment. We believe that this kind of relationship with te employer is crucial to ensuring the well being of our members.
